Words that sound or look too close to each other...

Too many people use the wrong words when they mean a different word... here are the words... (I will add on to this as I find more.)


Their vs There vs They're

Their: "Someone left their hoodie." or "Their phone is fully charged."

There: "Your teacher is over there."

They're (They are): "They're a streamer." or "They're a parent."


To vs Too vs Two

To: "Let's go to the store."

Too: "I like that color too." or "I have that shirt too."

Two (2): "I have two cats." or "We have two kids."


Your vs You're 

Your: "Get your food."

You're (You Are): "You're a gamer." or "You're free to go."


Read vs Red

Read: "I read this book two times already." 

Red (Red): "Red is my favorite color."


Where vs Were vs We're

Where: "Where are you?" 

Were: "You were sleeping at your desk."

We're (We Are): "We're going to the park."


Are vs Our 

Are: "Are you free to meet up later?" or "You are 5 feet tall."

Our: "Our family is big."


Sea vs See

Sea: "The sea is very blue today." or "There are a lot of fish in the sea." 

See: "I can see a dog outside." or "Can you see how windy it is outside?" 


Women vs Woman/Men vs Man

Women (Multiple people who are women): "I date women." or "Not all women have long hair."

Woman (A singular woman): "She is a woman." or "Cleo is a woman."

Man (A singular man): "Jake is a man." or  "He is a man."

Men (Multiple people who are men): "Can you get these men their drinks?" 


Quiet vs Quite

Quiet: "It is quiet in the library."

Quite: "He is quite small for a horse."


Loose vs Lose

Loose: "This shirt is too loose."

Lose: "We didn't lose this game."


Angel vs Angle

Angel: "Satan used to be an angel." or "My cat's name is Angel." 

Angle: "The angle of the shelf is wrong." or "The angle of the picture is correct." 


Breath vs Breathe

Breath: "I took a breath of fresh air."

Breathe: "You can't breathe underwater without the right gear."


Brought vs Bought

Brought: "They brought cookies over for Christmas."

Bought: "I bought these flowers for my garden."


Sell vs Sale

Sell: "I am going to sell these shoes online." or "She wanted to sell her art at the fair."

Sale: "That store down the street is having a sale." or "They wanted to sell their old shirts at the garage sale."


Peak vs Peek

Peak: "The peak of the mountain is 1,000 feet high." of "The peak of the church has a cross on it."

Peek: "I took a peek at my Birthday gift early." or "I took a peek at my Christmas presents before December 25th."


Worse vs Worst 

Worse: "It could be worse." 

Worst: "This is the worst part of the movie."


Garden vs Guardian

Garden: "My garden has 10 different flowers." 

Guardian: "My guardian said to meet them at 12."


Dessert vs Desert

Dessert: "They baked a pie for Thanksgiving." or "She made a Honey Cake for Hanukkah."

Desert: "My throat felt like it was dry as a desert."
